Mark your calendars now! On Friday, January 31st, 2020, the Penn State Nittany Lions will travel to Carver-Hawkeye Arena to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes in a match that will undoubtedly pit number one against number two. Since the conclusion of the 2019 NCAA Tournament, fans have looked ahead and thought that the 2019-20 Hawkeyes may be a team capable of blocking a fifth-consecutive NCAA team title for Cael Sanderson’s squad. So, let's jump ahead three-plus months and do a quick breakdown of the potential matchup at the highly-anticipated dual. Not only are we going to look at the dual meet, but we’ll also project NCAA Tournament placements, too. For most wrestlers, two possible point totals. Those point totals represent a realistic placement in a “best-case” scenario and another one in a “worst-case” scenario. In this model, we have factored in bonus points for those wrestlers that are more likely to earn them.
I’ll be interested in rereading this in mid-January once these wrestlers have had a couple months of mat-time under their belts and see how/if it changes.
125 - Spencer Lee (Iowa) vs. Brody Teske (Penn State)
So to be clear..we’ve got the Pennsylvania native wrestling for Iowa and the Iowa native wrestling for Penn State. Funny how that works.
