Super Regional VI

Where: Health & Sports Center on the campus of UNK: Kearney, Nebraska

When: Saturday, February 23rd

Live: Trackwrestling

Super Regional VI might be considered top-heavy when it comes to talent. Of the 15 wrestlers ranked* in the tournament, ten of them are in the national top five. If you are a numbers person, that would mean that 80% of those ranked are in the top 42%. There are three wrestlers ranked first in the country and another two ranked second. One-third of the ranked wrestlers in this Super Regional tournament are ranked either first or second. That is just absolutely crazy and shows how loaded it is.

The University of Nebraska-Kearney leads this field with five wrestlers in the rankings including two number ones. Head coach Dalton Jensen has seen his squad ranked first at various times this season and has to feel they can challenge St Cloud State if they can send through six or seven wrestlers through. Western Colorado University has pulled off two different top 10 dual upsets this season for coach Charlie Pipher and, here at the tournament, he will rely on two returning All-Americans to lead the way. If there is a team to challenge Kearney in this super regional,  it will be eighth-ranked Colorado State University-Pueblo. Coach Dax Charles has his team ready to battle, and with three wrestlers who should be top seeds, they might have what it takes.

Dive in and follow along as I look at each weight class and predict the three wrestlers who will advance and the first wrestler out at each weight. As always, a huge thank you to Wrestlestat and their fledgling d2.wrestlestat.com site for help digging through records.
