Super Regional III was the site of a three-team race for the championship trophy in 2019. When the smoke cleared, Notre Dame stood victorious with 125 points followed by Indianapolis with 122.5 and Wheeling Jesuit with 121. Will we have that type of craziness in 2020? I hope so. We will get to see Davenport in the postseason for the first time as a full-fledged member of Division II and Urbana University in just their second. There may not be quite the depth of some of the other Super Regionals, but with 21 ranked athletes, there is no lack of talented wrestlers to be seen on Saturday.
Notre Dame is going to have to earn the title this season; they will be facing two other teams from the top 10. West Liberty could play spoiler if they have some wrestlers steal spots from the top three teams and Lake Erie is going to have a say in this as well. 21 wrestlers who finished the season ranked in the top 16 will be battling for the spots and 184 is going to be the one not to miss. Ashland, Lake Erie, Tiffin, Findlay, and Indianapolis did battle at the Midwest Classic with Tiffin using bonus points to finish highest out of the group. In a small tournament like this, that could be the difference-maker. Ashland has the most balanced team with ranked wrestlers spread throughout and consistency will be necessary. Be sure to follow along on Saturday as it is all sorted out.
Follow along as I take a look at every weight and make my predictions for Top Six and the three wrestlers who will represent SRI at each weight.
