\Ask anyone who’s been to more than one NCAA DI tournament or two. The best round of the collegiate wrestling season is the Friday night session that is highlighted by the national semifinals. Six mats are arranged in a “dog bone” formation with the center two being where the semis take place. Two wrestlers at each weight class move on and their hopes of achieving the goal of national champion remain alive, at least for about 24 more hours. While those semifinal matches have a national title hanging in the balance like a carrot dangling in front of the horse, the most intense action typically occurs on the outer four mats.
