EDMOND (Aug. 18) — Perennial wrestling powerhouse Central Oklahoma doesn’t make its home debut until January, according to the 2014-15 schedule released Monday.
Other than the Oct. 29 Bronze-Blue intrasquad dual, the 15-time national champion Bronchos of 33rd-year head coach David James won’t wrestle at Hamilton Field House until a Jan. 15 meeting with Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association opponent Newman. UCO finishes the dual schedule with five straight home bouts, including a showdown with rival Nebraska-Kearney in the season finale Feb. 8.
The UNK match will be one of two Sunday afternoon duals the Bronchos will have, the other coming a week earlier (Feb. 1) against Ouachita Baptist.
UCO, with five starters back from last year’s 14-4 dual team that finished fifth nationally, opens the season Nov. 2 at the Oklahoma City Open. The Bronchos will compete in five tournaments and two duals (at Ouachita Baptist Dec. 2 and at Fort Hays State Dec. 5) during the first-semester schedule.
The second semester slate is all duals, starting with the NWCA Division II National Duals Jan. 10-11 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
UCO has been moved to the West Region for post-season competition and will go to Pueblo, Colo. Feb. 27-28 for the West Super Regional Tournament. The top-four placers from each of the 10 weights at that event qualify for the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships, set for March 13-14 in St. Louis, Mo.
