Oregon City- The Clackamas Community College wrestling team improved to 2-0 on the year in dual meets with a 33-12 dismantling of NCAA D2 Simon Fraser of Vancouver, B.C. In the match Clackamas scored victories in 7 of 10 bouts to take the first home dual of the season and won by bonus points in 6 of those 7 wins. “The guys really came out and wrestle with a lot of intensity and fire. It is always fun to be at home with a good crowd and our kids were able to get some great wins tonight,” said Coach Josh Rhoden. Getting big wins for the Cougar Mat men were CJ Palmer (133), Lawrence Otero (141), Eleazar DeLuca (157), Dustin Harris (174) and Ihoughama Odigizuwa (197). Each of these grapplers earned wins by bonus points helping secure the victory for Clackamas.
“We started off with a tough guy at 125 and Kamron had in some position early that he could have capitalized on to change the course of that match but the kid from SFU is a returning D2 All-American and a very tough young man.” Rhoden is referring to #2 ranked Skylor Davis at 125 who picked up a tough first bout fall over the Cougars. “Our guys just need to continue to relax out there and have fun. We work really hard and are confident that we will be okay if we can just go out and compete from whistle to whistle, added Rhoden. Tomorrow we will have a chance to get back at it and make some adjustments,” concluded coach Rhoden.
Clackamas now heads to the Mike Clock Open tomorrow held by Pacific University in Forest Grove, OR. The annual event is attended by many tough programs from across the West included Division 1 and #6 ranked Oregon State as well as D2 San Francisco State, NAIA power Southern Oregon and other very strong fields from the Junior College ranks.
