Cedar Rapids, Ia. – Wartburg and Augsburg each qualified nine wrestlers for the NCAA Division III tournament, which starts Friday in Cedar Rapids.
Coe, Cornell and the Iowa Conference are serving as hosts for the event at U.S. Cellular Center.
Session one is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday. The quarterfinals will be held Friday night at 6.
Saturday’s 10 a.m. session will feature the championship semifinals, with the title matches scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday.
Augsburg is No. 1 in the NWCA rankings, followed by defending champion Wartburg and Delaware Valley. Coe is fourth, Cornell is 14th, Dubuque is 15th and Luther is 16th.
Mark Maztek will try to win a championship in his first year as Augsburg’s coach.
“I feel it will be a really close team race,” he said. “Each point that (our wrestlers) can get our team will count.”
Augsburg has 10 Division III championships, more than any other program. Wartburg has six team titles.
Augsburg beat Wartburg twice: 21-20 on Jan. 11, and 21-16 on Jan. 30
