Edinboro University’s Ernest James (Medford, NY/Longwood) has been named the PSAC Co-Wrestler of the Week for the week ending January 26, sharing the honor with Jeremy Landowski of Mercyhurst. In addition, the Eastern Wrestling League announced that the Edinboro wrestling team has been named as the EWL Wrestler of the Week for the same period.

Edinboro defeated Cleveland State on Friday 39-4 and Bloomsburg on Saturday 29-10 to clinch the regular season EWL title. Head coach Tim Flynn’s team won all five of its EWL matches and are now 7-3 overall.

James played a huge role in the two victories. The senior heavyweight handed Cleveland State’s Riley Shaw a 4-3 defeat on Friday night, then edged Justin Grant of Bloomsburg on Saturday 2-1. Both were national qualifiers a year ago. The wins avenged previous losses. Shaw had defeated James 4-3 in last year’s EWL Championships.

On Saturday he picked up his first win in four meetings with Grant, who came in ranked 14th by Amateur Wrestling News. Grant had defeated James 2-0 in December in the PSAC Championships’ title bout. Grant also owned a 3-1 win over James last year’s EWL semifinals.

James boosted his season record to 20-5 and now has a career record of 91-47. He is ranked 16th by Amateur Wrestling News and 19th by InterMat.
