Edinboro’s Mitchell Port named PSAC, EWL Wrestler of the Week

EDINBORO, Pa. (Jan. 6, 2014) – Edinboro University’s Mitchell Port (Bellefonte, PA/Bellefonte Area) has been named the EWL Wrestler of the Week and PSAC Wrestler of the Week for the week ending January 5. Port was recognized for his outstanding performance in the 51st Ken Kraft Midlands Championships.

The redshirt junior would remain undefeated and ranked number at 141 lbs. after winning all five of his matches to improve to 14-0 on the season. Port opened the tourney with a 4-0 win over Logan Arlis, followed by a fall at 2:51 over Purdue’s Nick Lawrence.

In the quarterfinals Port won a 12-5 major decision over Indiana’s Ethan Raley, and he reached the finals with his eighth pin of the season at 6:53 over Pat Greco of Northwestern. In the finals, Port faced Illinois’ Steven Rodrigues, who was unseeded but advanced with wins over four ranked wrestlers. Port would win by bonus points for the fourth time in five matches, claiming an 11-2 major decision.

Port and the rest of the Fighting Scots return to action on Friday, January 10 and Saturday, January 11 competing in the Virginia Duals.
