ERIE, Pa. – Gannon’s Matt Turek (Madison, Ohio/Madison) has been named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Wrestler of the Week. It represents the first PSAC weekly honor for a Gannon wrestler since Turek took home the award on February 4, 2013.

Turek was perfect in two bouts last week, defeating a pair of wrestlers ranked among the region’s top three in the process. Ranked second in the NCAA Division II Super Region One, Turek began the week with a 7-4 victory against third-ranked Ryan Bohince of Mercyhurst. The redshirt junior then defeated top-ranked Dave Fogle of Pitt-Johnstown 12-5, avenging an earlier 7-2 loss at the PSAC Championships. Fogle was also tabbed third among all NCAA Division II wrestlers.

The Madison, Ohio, native extended his current win streak to nine with the perfect week, improving to 19-5 overall and 9-1 in dual competition. Turek also moved to 5-1 against the region’s top six 125-pound wrestlers. He has not suffered a defeat since January 5.

Gannon (6-4, 4-3) returns to action Friday, February 14 at West Liberty. The Golden Knights are ranked fifth in the NCAA Division II Super Region One while the Hilltoppers sit in eighth place. The dual meet is scheduled for 7 p.m.
