Last week it was announced that Seth Gross (South Dakota State) would wrestle in the NWCA All-Star Match, which will be held on November 2nd in Denver, Colorado. Today his opponent, Tariq Wilson (NC State), was made public. Even though both are 133 lbers, the match will take place at 141 lbs, due to Gross’ schedule. The first date on the SDSU schedule is the Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open two days later.
This is a highly anticipated rematch of the pairs 2018 NCAA semifinal, a back-and-forth affair won by Gross with a pin in sudden victory. Seth would go on to capture his first NCAA title in his second consecutive NCAA finals appearance. Wilson was one of the biggest surprises of the tournament. He came in unseeded and knocked off the third, fourth, and fifth seeds en route to a third-place finish.
Gross will be competing in the event for the second consecutive season. Last year he defeated his eventual NCAA Finals opponent Stevan Micic (Michigan) 7-1. He is the first Jackrabbit wrestler to compete multiple times in the All-Star match. This will be the fifth consecutive year that NC State has been represented.
Below are the wrestlers that the NWCA has announced will be participating in the All-Star match. The men’s weights are listed first with women’s below.
