Hempstead, NY – Hofstra Head Wrestling Coach Rob Anspach today announced the Pride’s 2013-14 schedule for their first season as a member of the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA).
The 2013-14 schedule features 16 dual matches including four home contests at the Mack Sports Complex, two matches in the second Grapple at the Garden in Madison Square Garden, two in-season tournaments as well as Hofstra’s first EIWA Championship Tournament and the season-ending NCAA Division I Championship Tournament. The Pride will face at least four opponents, Cornell (5), Virginia Tech (10), Oklahoma (12) and North Carolina (22), which placed in the top 25 of the 2013 NCAA Division I Championships.
The Hofstra season begins on Sunday, November 3 when the Pride host the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers in the first EIWA contest in the Mack Sports Complex at 1 p.m. Hofstra will then take to the road for five dual matches including Virginia Tech (Nov. 8), Tennessee Chattanooga, VMI and North Carolina at the Hokie Duals on November 10, and at Oklahoma on November 17. The New York State Collegiate Championships at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY will close out the competitions for the month on Sunday, November 24.
December will see Hofstra complete in two big events as the Pride will return to Madison Square Garden, the World’s Most Famous Arena, for the second Grapple at the Garden on December 1 when they will square off against Army and EIWA-foe Boston University. Hofstra will then compete in the 32nd annual Cliff Keen-Las Vegas Invitational at the Las Vegas Convention Center on December 6-7.
The Pride will kick off the new year in Chattanooga, TN for The Southern Scuffle on January 1-2. Hofstra will be returning to the Scuffle for the first time since 2012. The Pride will then host three EIWA opponents in the following four dual matches as Princeton (Jan. 10), Drexel (Jan. 24) and Binghamton (Feb. 7) will come to the Mack Sports Complex for league matches. Hofstra will travel to Bloomsburg on January 19 during that stretch.
After a road match at Rider on February 9, the Pride will compete in the NWCA National Duals, against opponents to be determined, on Sunday, February 16 at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. Hofstra will close out its dual match schedule on February 22 at Cornell.
Hofstra, which captured 12 conference titles in the past 13 seasons including last year’s final Colonial Athletic Association championship, will make its first appearance in the EIWA Championships on March 8-9 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
The 2014 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships are scheduled for March 20-22 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, OK.
