Today, TOM has learned that the Naval Academy will be moving on from head coach Joel Sharratt. Sharratt spent six years in Annapolis at the helm of the Navy program. Under his tutelage, one Midshipman, Mathew Miller, earned All-American honors and 15 different wrestlers qualified for nationals 27 times. This year five Navy wrestlers qualified for the 2020 national tournament and two of them (Cody Trybus and Tanner Skidgel) captured EIWA titles. Prior to his arrival at the Naval Academy, Sharratt was the head coach at the Air Force Academy for eight seasons.

Three of Navy’s five national qualifiers will return for the 2020-21 season, including both of their conference champions. The 2019-20 season saw Navy put together a 8-6 record and a fourth place finish at the EIWA Championships. One important date on the Midshipmen’s schedule is the Star Match against rival Army West Point. Navy has dropped the last four matches in the series, including a 16-15 match on the third criteria this year.
