KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Redshirt junior wrestler Ziad Haddad (Orefield, PA/Bethlehem Catholic (North Carolina)) earned the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Athlete of the Week honor for the Golden Bears wrestling squad released Monday afternoon, after closing out an upset victory with a 9-3 decision win at 285 pounds against the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown on Friday night.

Up 16-13 going into the final bout against eighth-ranked UPJ, Haddad, the top-ranked heavyweight in the nation, squared off against eighth-ranked ranked heavyweight Josh Duplin.

Haddad opened with a takedown 19 seconds into the bout to help build a 4-2 lead against Duplin. Two more takedowns from Haddad increased the lead to 6-3, putting the Mountain Cats on their heels. Haddad then controlled Duplin on the mat, building up time advantage to secure the 9-3 decision on riding time, giving 12th-ranked Kutztown the 19-13 match victory.

Haddad improves his career record against Duplin to 3-0, and remains undefeated at 4-0 so far this season with one pin.

Friday’s victory marked the first win over the UPJ Mountain Cats in Kutztown wrestling history. Kutztown improves to a 3-1 dual meet record on the year, as the squad prepares for the PSAC Championships on Saturday, Dec. 7 in Edinboro.
