LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Phil Sprenkle (Seven Valleys, Pa./Dallastown) of the Lock Haven University wrestling team has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Wrestler of the Week for his recent efforts on the mats.

Sprenkle turned in a sensational effort at yesterday’s (Sunday, Dec. 2) Mat Town Open.

He went 5-0 on the way to the 197-pound title in a deep and talented field. Sprenkle capped his perfect 5-0 day with a 4-3 win in the finals over Tyler Lyster (UNA – Bucknell).

Sprenkle opened the day on a tear, winning by tech fall (15-0, 5:11) and two pins.

In the semifinals he beat Ryan Solomon (UNA – Pittsburgh) 7-4. Solomon is a two-time PIAA Class AA Champion, who was 40-0 last year at nearby Milton High School.

In the finals, Sprenkle’s hard-fought 4-3 win avenged a 6-0 loss to Lyster earlier in the year in a dual match. He scored a takedown at the final buzzer to seal the win over Lyster.

The Bald Eagles return to action on Saturday, Dec. 7 at the 2013 PSAC Championship, hosted by Edinboro.
