LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ—Rider University’s Robert Deutsch has been named the Eastern Wrestling League Wrestler of the Week for all competition February 3-9.

Deutsch (Cherry Hill, NJ/Eastern Regional) won both of his matches last week, a major decision against Drexel and a 4-0 victory over nationally ranked Jamie Franco of Hofstra.

Deutsch is currently ranked 12th in the nation in his 125 pound weight class.

“Rob is continuing to focus and work on areas that will make him that much better for the conference and the NCAA Tournament,” said Rider head coach Gary Taylor.

“Rob has established himself as one of the best 125 pounders in the nation,” said Rider associate head coach John Hangey. “He has been very consistent this year and is really starting to wrestle at a high level.”

The victory over Franco helped Rider defeat Hofstra for just the second time in the last five years.

With the two victories Deutsch improved to 25-4 overall, 19-1 in dual meets.

This is the second time this season that Deutsch has been honored by the EWL. Deutsch was also the EWL Wrestler of the Week in December.

Rider (13-7) travels to Cleveland State February 15 for an EWL dual meet.
