The Lindenwood University wrestling team got some good news and added firepower to the lineup with the announced addition of Abner Romero to their roster. The Clovis, California product will fill an immediate hole for coach Jimmy Rollins whether he suits up at 174 or 184 this semester. Initially committing to and wrestling for Old Dominion University as a redshirt in 2016-17, he posted 29 wins. He returned to his home state in 2017, joining the Fresno City College team, where he wrestled a limited schedule. This season he competed in the Reno Tournament of Champions as an unattached wrestler posting a 3-1 record. He is 1-0 against Division II competition this season and will find himself in our rankings soon enough. Romero was a 2016 NHSCA national champion at 170 lbs and a two-time California state placer.
He joins a Lindenwood team that is full of hammers from 125 through 149. The Lions were a combined 10-2 in three duals at those weights at the NWCA tournament. The additions of Colby Smith and Danny Swan to the lineup have shored them up and present a chance for them to go four-for-four on All-American finishes at those weights. At 174 and 184, the Lions managed just a 2-4 record at the tournament. Coach Rollins still expects their national qualifier at 197, Jared McKindley, to return to the top half of the lineup a that already features returning qualifier Vos Morrow at heavyweight. The addition of Romero eases the loss of Gavin Londoff, who is redshirting this season.
