The South Dakota State wrestling team has nine home dates on its 2014-15 schedule, as announced by head coach Chris Bono Thursday morning.
This season’s schedule includes four tournaments, along with the NCAA West Regional/WWC Championships and the NCAA Championships.
“We are excited to have nine home dates,” Bono said. “Our fans at Frost are going to see some great wrestling this season.”
The Jacks will once again make their season debut by hosting the 22nd Annual Warren Williamson/Daktronics Open on Nov. 2.
SDSU will then hit the road for the Bison Open Nov. 8, along with duals at Oklahoma State and Drexel on Nov. 15 and 22, respectively. SDSU will complete its East Coast swing with the Keystone Classic in Philadelphia on Nov. 23.
“The East Coast road trip in late November is going to help us get ready for the NCAA’s,” Bono said. “We are going to wrestle a good Drexel team that beat us at home last year, along with seeing good competition at the Keystone Classic.”
The Jacks will return home to close out November by hosting Wisconsin. This will mark the Badgers first-ever trip to Brookings.
SDSU and Augustana will once again wrestle at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls on Dec. 7 followed by the second-annual Battle for the Border Bell at North Dakota State on Dec. 14.
“Last season the Pentagon was electric,” Bono added. “We are looking forward to continuing the rivalry with Augustana and the Pentagon is the perfect venue for it.”
The Jackrabbits will then travel to Columbia, Mo., for to battle Missouri, Kent State and Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville before closing out December at Midlands in Evanston, Ill.
SDSU will open 2015 with four home dates. The Jacks will welcome Buffalo and Dakota Wesleyan on Jan. 11 and Boise State on Jan. 16. SDSU will open Western Wrestling Conference action against Northern Colorado on Jan. 18, before hosting a triangular against Cal Poly and Oregon State on Jan. 25.
The Jacks will hit the road for a pair of WWC duals at Wyoming and at Air Force on Jan. 30 and Feb. 1, respectively.
SDSU will close out the regular season at home against Utah Valley, Stanford and NDSU.
“We are excited to have opponents from the Big 10, Big 12 and Pac 12 this season,” Bono said, “along with our conference slate which is getting better and better.”
NDSU will host the NCAA West Regional/WWC Championships March 7, while St. Louis, Mo., will play host to the 2015 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships March 19-21.
