Spartan Wrestling Adds Volunteer Assistant

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State wrestling coach Tom Minkel announced today that former Northern Iowa University standout Alex Dolly will join the Spartan staff as a volunteer assistant for the 2009-10 season.

“We are very pleased to have Alex join our wrestling program,” said MSU head coach Tom Minkel. “He is an outstanding young man who will significantly help our upper weights both as a coach and a training partner. Alex is an enormously talented wrestler who has a bright future in coaching.”

While at Northern Iowa, Dolly wrestled at 184 pounds and earned four trips to the NCAA Championships. He reached the round of 12 on three occasions at the NCAA Championships and finished his career with an overall record of 74-57.

Dolly hails from Mishawaka, Ind., where he holds the state’s all-time career takedown record with 548 and was a two-time USA Wrestling National All-American.

Dolly will attend graduate school at MSU while working with the Spartan wrestling team.
