Today the voting for the Dan Hodge Trophy was made public and the recipient of the award for the 2020 season is Iowa’s 125 lber Spencer Lee. Spencer received 51 of 56 first place votes. Also receiving first place votes were Kollin Moore, Ryan Deakin, and Shane Griffith. Lee registered bonus point wins in 17 of his 18 matches with nine tech falls and four pins. Spencer outscored his competition by an incredible 234-18 mark during the 2019-20 season. He also captured his first Big Ten title and was named the conference’s Wrestler of the Year.
Spencer is the third Iowa Hawkeye to win the honor joining Mark Ironside in 1998 and Brent Metcalf in 2008. Due to the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Tournament, Lee was unable to try for his third NCAA title.
