The Outstanding Wrestler at the Midwest Classic, Heath Gray, also takes home TOM’s College Wrestler of the Week honors, Gray, the winner at the 184 lb weight class, was the only champion for the Bronchos who finished as the runner-up at the Classic. It was an improvement on Gray’s runner-up finish at the event in 2018. Heath, the second-ranked wrestler in the nation, in TOM’s latest DII rankings, was the only champion at the Midwest Classic that collected bonus points in all of his matches. He would earn a pin in his opening match followed by a tech in the second round, then three straight major decisions for the title. Gray’s victims included national qualifiers Brandon Sloop (UNC-Pembroke) and ZeBrandon Gant (Newberry) in the quarters and semis, respectively, and returning All-American Aidan Pasiuk (Ashland) for the championship. Over the weekend, Gray outscored his opposition by the score of 60-11. For the year, Gray is now 15-1 with bonus points in 13 of those contests. The only loss came at the Oklahoma City Open, where he fell to DI All-American, Dakota Geer (Oklahoma State), 8-4. Heath is a junior that finished third in the nation last season at 184 lbs.
