This week’s college wrestler of the week Stevan Micic earns the honor after posting a 14-1 major decision victory in #5 Michigan’s upset victory over #3 Ohio State. It wasn’t just any wrestler that Micic majored from the Buckeyes, it was returning All-American and seventh-ranked Luke Pletcher. Last season Pletcher was able to knock off Micic during the first of their three meetings. Micic was able to avenge that defeat by downing Pletcher in their ensuing three bouts, including the Big Ten finals and NCAA semifinals, though all of those wins came by regular decisions. In Friday’s dual with Ohio State, the meet was conducted in normal order so Micic/Pletcher was the second bout of the evening. The Wolverine got a first-period takedown and then four near-fall points from a turk to take a commanding 6-0 lead into the second. Micic would add takedowns in each of the last two periods, along with another set of near fall points and riding time to earn his major decision. The win was instrumental as it gave Michigan a 7-0 lead after two bouts in what ended up being a tight dual, as expected. Micic’s record now moves up to 9-0 on the year and he sits undefeated atop a 133 lb class that as seen upset after upset take place below him. The junior is a two-time All-American after finishing as the NCAA runner-up in 2018 and in fourth-place as a freshman in 2017.
