This week’s college wrestler of the week Tyler Berger of Nebraska earns the honor after getting his hand raised in a battle of top-three ranked wrestlers on Sunday during the Huskers dual with Northwestern. Berger entered the match ranked third in the country, just behind the Wildcats Ryan Deakin, who was second and undefeated. Tyler was trailing 1-0 in the third period; however he used a reversal and a pair of takedowns to get the 6-3 win. This win comes after Deakin dominated his way through the Midlands Championships, after picking up a title at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational where he faced little resistance. Berger was third in Las Vegas and was handed his only loss of the season, thus far, in the quarterfinals. Counting his run through the consolations to third-place, Berger is now on a seven-match winning streak where he has downed Deakin, NCAA runner-up Hayden Hidlay (NC State), and seventh-ranked Ke-Shawn Hayes (Ohio State). Tyler is a two-time All-American (third – 2018, fifth – 2017) out of Prineville, Oregon.
