This week’s College Wrestler of the Week, Branson Ashworth earns the honor after picking up a dual meet victory over Oklahoma State’s two-time All-American Chandler Rogers. Currently ranked ninth in the nation, Ashworth was one of two Wyoming wrestlers to win a match in the battle of the Cowboys. In a scoreless second period, Branson rode out Rogers, putting himself in great position to add a riding time point. He quickly escaped in the third period, which would ensure the riding time point. As the clock ticked down in the final stanza, Ashworth added to his lead with a takedown off of a reshot. After adding the riding time point, the Wyoming grappler would go on to win 4-1.

While this was an upset based on rankings, it was not the first victory over Rogers for Ashworth. In their schools 2017-18 dual, Branson also defeated Rogers 6-2. Last year, as a junior, Ashworth qualified for the NCAA Championships for a second time after finishing third in the Big 12. So far this year he has accumulated a 9-1 record with a win at the Cowboy Open and recently a win over tenth-ranked Isaiah White (Nebraska).
