A week after talking about how important it is to bring coverage to the incredible level of wrestling at Division II, I am launching a new weekly feature that will highlight the Division II Dual of the Week.  A special thanks to d2.wrestlestat.com for the incredible work he did over the course of last season to duplicate his Division I wrestlestat resource for the Division II wrestling. Let’s dive into an early-season meeting between two teams in the Top-10.

Less than a year ago, the Nebraska-Kearney Lopers defeated the Western Colorado Mountaineers 26-16 at the Midwest Duals in mid-January.  Anyone from the midwest knows that there is no love lost between the states of Nebraska and Colorado and this dual will highlight the rivalry in all the best ways.  Kearney features a lineup with five wrestlers currently ranked, and I expect that four of them will be making this trip. With the changes to the regional and seeding process for nationals looming, this could be their chance to unseat reigning champs, St Cloud State.  Western Colorado had a rough showing at the Cowboy Open if you just follow the wins and losses, but they open their dual season this Friday night against Cloud County Community College. That is an important match because it gives both teams a one pound weight allowance for the dual on Saturday.  UNK put together a solid showing at the Cowboy Open including crowning a champion. They will battle Colorado Mesa on Friday night in their warm-up for the Saturday showdown.

As always with our Dual of the Week, we’ll break down each matchup, what each team needs to do to win, make our predictions, and have WrestleStat take on the dual as well.
