Hot on the heels of an incredible weekend of wrestling at the NWCA National Dual Tournament, a group of top teams in Division II will gather at Wisconsin-Parkside to do battle again. The Ranger Duals will feature ranked teams like Saint Cloud State, McKendree, Wisconsin-Parkside, Maryville, Tiffin, and more. It is a great chance for teams to meet at a central location to wrestle multiple duals with a single weigh-in. While a battle between #2 St Cloud State and #5 McKendree is on the slate, I am looking at the sneaky good matchup between McKendree and #11 Tiffin. On paper, this dual is very close, and bonus points and an upset one way or the other can turn this dual. Something to watch will be how McKendree’s wrestlers are feeling after starting the day off with a war against St Cloud State. If they come out of that banged up or riding a wave of confidence, it could make the difference.

What: Ranger Duals

There are going to be some very good individual matches in this dual. The McKendree lineup features six wrestlers ranked in the top 10 of their weight classes. The Tiffin Dragons have four wrestlers ranked in the top 12. Three different weights will feature athletes ranked meeting head-to-head.  Weights like 141, 165, and heavyweight are going to loom large. They are the toss-up weights that can make the difference. The other difference maker will be bonus points, a fall could be as much as a 12 point swing in the final total.

The McKendree Bearcats have had only one head coach in their history. James Kisgen was named the first head coach and has guided them from the NAIA into Division II, along the way he has coached nine national champions. Tiffin head coach Joey Simcoe is entering his seventh season at the helm having coached seven All-Americans in his time leading the Dragons. Make sure you are sitting with all four of your chairs feet on the floor when the 197 match starts, Nick Mason (TU) and Ryan Vasbinder (MCK) are 6th and 8th in the country in Falls. Even more impressive is that Vasbinder’s five falls have come in just over seven minutes combined. There will only be two rematches in the dual, one at 125 and the other at 149. And finally keep in mind that this will be the third dual of the day for McKendree, while this will be the second for Tiffin. Will fatigue start to become a factor?

As always with our Dual of the Week, we’ll break down each matchup, what each team needs to do to win, make our predictions, and have the WrestleStat take on the dual as well.
