Army West Point head coach Kevin Ward recently sat down with TOM to discuss his team’s 2019-20 season. Coach Ward reminds us that we only missed out on three days this wrestling season and doesn’t overlook the successful year his team put together. The Black Knights finished the dual season 10-3 (4-1 EIWA), produced their first Midlands finalist, placed third at the EIWA’s (highest at the school in 15 years), and qualified seven wrestlers for nationals (for a second straight season). Other topics include the emergence of 157 lber Markus Hartman, the future of the EIWA, and what his staff looks for in recruits. Ward also gives his thoughts on a pair of new head coaching hires, his old roommate Chris Pendleton, and new rival, Cary Kolat. We also discuss the increased awareness of Memorial Day while coaching at West Point and the tragic 2019 loss of Army wrestler CJ Morgan.
