Top-ranked Missouri wrestler Nick Marable was arrested by Columbia police over the weekend after allegedly fighting with another man downtown.
Officers on foot patrol downtown at about 1:45 a.m. Saturday noticed a large crowd gathered around two men who were fighting outside Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwich Shop, 1019 E. Broadway, Sgt. Dan Beckman said.
Marable, a 21-year-old junior from Collierville, Tenn., was fighting with Craig Koehmstedt, 23, of Columbia, Beckman said. Both men were arrested on suspicion of peace disturbance by fighting, a municipal charge. Neither was seriously injured, Beckman said.
Andrew Wood, 21, who is listed as a sophomore wrestler from Hannibal, was arrested on suspicion of disorderly conduct.
Marable finished third in the nation at 165 pounds at the NCAA Championships last season and also won a Big 12 championship while compiling a 27-4 record. Wood wrestled three matches at 165 pounds last season.
