Who Will Peak in Cleveland? Breaking Down Teams and Individuals

Despite the fact that the first matches of the NCAA Division I wrestling season are still weeks away, preseason rankings are coming out, stoking the debates over which teams are title contenders, who will win the ultimate prize, and which schools have the most room to grow. The regular season will give us much more data to apply to those questions, but we already know that some teams and wrestlers thrive at the NCAA tournament while others wilt. Late last week, we looked at how wrestlers who overperform at nationals one year follow that up the next season. Today, we'll look at both the historic performance of teams at NCAAs and the performance of their current starters to see who is most likely to exceed their rankings at the end of the year. With this data, we will be able to watch the rankings all season with a better understanding of what they truly mean in the race for team trophies.
