This year will mark the 10th anniversary of FloWrestling’s annual FloNationals event in Indiana, Pennsylvania and what better way to mark that anniversary than with a major overhaul to the tournament format.
For the first time this year’s event will not be folkstyle, but rather both freestyle and Greco. Also, the tournament will serve as a 16U Pan-Am qualifier and will serve as a seeding event for July’s 16U World Team qualifier in Akron. Only the 16U level athletes will compete in the Greco portion, to be held Thursday. Both 16U and Junior level athletes will compete in freestyle on Friday and Saturday. Placement points will be awarded at the 16U level for positions one through eight and the athletes with the most combined placement points in Greco and freestyle will represent the US at Pan-Am's.
Because of the changes to the event style, the separation of 16U and Juniors, and the timing (the weekend of Easter), some of the fields are smaller than what fans are used to seeing at FloNationals.
Additionally, not all athletes at the 16U level are competing in both Greco and freestyle.
Our first part of the preview will focus just on the 16U fields.
Currently, the 41-45 kilo 16U field for Greco lists just 10 entrants, while the freestyle field has only 15.
