Tonight, on social media, St. Edward, Ohio junior Paddy Gallagher announced that he will continue his collegiate career in-state wrestling for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Gallagher was recently named the fourth overall recruit in the high school Class of 2021 in rankings released by TOM. A 2019 state champion, Gallagher went out to Fargo in July and captured a Junior National freestyle championship at 160 lbs. It was his second time placing in Fargo, as he also was sixth in Cadet freestyle in 2017.
Paddy is the first commit for the Buckeyes from the Class of 2021 and he projects as a 174 lber for Tom Ryan’s squad. While there is some youth at the weight class on the Buckeyes current roster, a prospect like Gallagher is difficult to ignore. Since he hails from legendary Ohio power St. Edward, it’s also good to establish a pipeline with that program. The Buckeyes haven’t always been able to sign recruits from St. Edward, so Gallagher’s commitment is even more valuable. Gallagher was named as the top seed at 160 lbs in the Walsh Jesuit Ironman which will kick off on Friday.
