More recruiting news has broken on the last Sunday of September as one of the biggest (literally and figuratively) members of the Class of 2021 has committed. Hayden Copass of Westville, Illinois announced via social media that he will continue his wrestling career at the University of Wisconsin. Copass is currently ranked third in the nation at 285 lbs and is the seventh-ranked recruit in the high school Class of 2021

Hayden was a 2019 Illinois state runner-up, losing in the state finals to current Illinois freshman Luke Luffman. Copass had a huge summer in Fargo, winning the U16 Freestyle national championship at 285 lbs for a second consecutive year. This time he also made the Greco-Roman finals after getting fifth in 2018. Hayden was named TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week, earlier in the summer, when he went undefeated at the U16 National Duals, surrendering just one point in six bouts.

This concludes a busy weekend on the recruiting front for the Badgers, as Chris Bono’s staff also received a commitment from New Jersey middleweight Joe Zargo. Copass is currently the only high school junior that has committed to Wisconsin. The big man Copass fits in well for the Badgers in the future. Their current starter, All-American Trent Hillger, is heading into his sophomore season. He’ll be a senior during Copass’ first year on campus.
