The 2018 Cadet and Junior Nationals begin Saturday, January 14th, in Fargo, North Dakota with the Women’s Cadet Freestyle tournament. Join us going weight-by-weight to break the contenders who will be battling for possession of a coveted Stop Sign.
Right away we jump into a group with plenty of girls with credentials. The most obvious is Sterling Dias (Nevada) who won a bronze medal competing in the 40 kg weight class at the Cadet World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia last week. Dias earned her spot on the world team by defeating Melissa Lee (California) at Cadet Women’s Nationals. Lee will be in Fargo at this weight, as well. She had to wrestle 101 lbs during the high school season and finished a match away from placing at the California state tournament. Melissa is also the only returning Fargo All-American at this weight, as she placed eighth in 2017. Another runner-up from Nationals is Ava Bayless (Pennsylvania) who was at this weight class. It remains to be seen whether Dias and Lee will have any difficulty wrestling up from the 88 lb weight class.
