This week’s High School Wrestler of the Week is Alejandro Herrera-Rondon of Seneca Valley in Jackson Township, Pennsylvania. Herrera-Rondon, the third-ranked wrestler in the country, won the 113-pound championship at the 2018 Powerade Tournament at Canon-McMillan High School. On the way to the title, Herrera-Rondon picked up a fall, two tech falls, a major decision and wins over the seventh and second-ranked wrestlers in the country. In the semifinals against No. 7 Jacob Rundell, neither wrestler scored in the first and Herrera-Rondon was ridden out in the second. In the third, however, he rode out Rundell (Oak Park-River Forest, IL) and picked up a pair of back points in the last 30 seconds to grab the win, Then in the finals, he went to overtime with second-ranked Kurt McHenry (St Paul’s, MD) after both exchanged escapes in regulation. Neither could score in sudden victory, and then Herrera-Rondon got an escape in the first tiebreaker before riding McHenry out in the second tiebreaker for the 2-1 win.
Congratulations to Alejandro Herrera-Rondon, TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week
