This week’s High School Wrestler of the Week is Jay Spencer of St. John Paul II in Huntsville, Alabama. Over the weekend Spencer, who is legally blind, took home the Alabama 1A-5A state championship at 160 lbs. Spencer also became the first state champion in St. John Paull II history. Spencer was the runner-up from his super section the week before. He was able to start his tournament in style with a fall in 3:04 to reach the quarterfinals. In the quarters, he pulled out a 10-9 decision win then dominated en route to a 10-2 major decision victory in the semis. Spencer once against picked up a hard-fought win in the finals, pulling out a 7-6 win and earning his spot atop the podium. He finished his senior season with a 43-2 overall record.
