This week’s Adidas High School Wrestler of the Week award goes to Joey Fischer of South Park High School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Fischer, a member of the Cadet Pan-American team in both Greco-Roman and Freestyle, took home the gold in both styles over the weekend in Morelia, Mexico. Competing at 48 kilograms, Fischer went 4-0 in Greco-Roman with four technical falls and did not allow a point. His run in freestyle was a bit bumpy to start, losing his first match 6-3 to Canadian Treye Trotman. He then when three straight matches, two via tech fall and one by fall to earn a rematch with Trotman for gold. In the rematch, he was able to overturn the earlier result and come out with a 10-4 victory. The pair of golds earned Fischer Outstanding Wrestler honors. During the high school season, Joey was fourth in Pennsylvania’s AA division at 106 lbs in 2018-19. Last summer in Fargo, Fischer brought home a stop sign after claiming a Junior National freestyle championship at 100 lbs. Fischer is a rising junior who is currently ranked No. 10 in the country at 106 pounds.
Congratulations to Joey Fischer, TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week
