This week’s High School Wrestler of the Week is Carter Starocci of Cathedral Prep in Erie, Pennsylvania. Starocci, the number one ranked 182-pound wrestler in the country, cemented that status over the weekend with a 3-1 win over No. 4 Abe Assad in the Pittsburgh Wrestling Classic. Starocci and Assad were part of the event’s marquee matchup and the final match of the night. The victory was a bit of revenge for the Pennsylvanian after Assad knocked him out of Cadet World Team Trials in Akron last summer with a 2-2 win on criteria. This time, Starocci used a takedown and ride out at the end of the second period to build a lead he never relinquished. Starocci was undefeated this year in high school competition and earned his second straight state title. He will continue his career at Penn State where he will likely wrestle at 184 pounds.
Congratulations to Carter Starocci, TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week.
