This week’s Adidas High School Wrestler of the Week award goes to Alara Boyd of Yorktown High School in Yorktown, Indiana. Boyd pulled double duty over the weekend at the 2019 Women’s Nationals in Irving, Texas. On Saturday, she went 6-0 at 62 kilograms to claim a spot on the 2019 Junior world team. Boyd started out with four consecutive technical falls to reach the best two out of three finals where she took on 2018 Cadet World Team member, California’s Cheyenne Bowman. In the finals, Alara picked up a first-period fall over Bowman in the opening match and then a 12-0 tech fall in the second to claim her spot on the team. But her work wasn’t done. Boyd came back on Sunday and went 4-1 in U23 World Team Trials to finish third. Her only loss came in the semifinals to the eventual runner-up Desiree Zavala. Boyd, who will continue her career in college at McKendree University, is a 2017 Cadet World silver medalist and 2016 Cadet World bronze medalist.
Congratulations to Alara Boyd, TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week.
