Adidas High School Wrestler of the Week – November 19th, 2018

This week’s High School Wrestler of the Week is Colton Yapoujian of Pomona, Colorado. Yapoujian, a senior, is a Cornell commit currently spending his senior year of high school training with the Finger Lakes Wrestling Club in Ithaca, New York. This weekend, Yapoujian went 5-0 with three falls to win the 157-pound division of the New York State Intercollegiate Open. He started off his run to the title with three consecutive pins in a total time of 3:30. In the semifinals, he edged out a 3-2 victory over Mike Petite of Buffalo before earning a 4-2 win in the first tiebreaker against New York University’s Cole Karam. Yapoujian is a two-time Colorado state champion and a 2016 Fargo Cadet Freestyle champion. After the 2017-18 high school season ended, Colton went to Virginia Beach for NHSCA Junior Nationals and came away with a championship at 138 lbs. He was also sixth in Junior Freestyle in Fargo this summer, as well.
