The Adidas High School Wrestler of the Week Award this week goes to Bretli Reyna of South Dade High School in Homestead, Florida. Reyna, ranked No. 19 in the country at 138 pounds, had a memorable weekend on the way to a Super 32 title up at 145 pounds. Reyna opened the tournament on Saturday as the No. 10 seed and racked up four straight major decisions to reach Sunday’s quarterfinals. In the quarters, he picked up a 9-6 upset victory over second-seeded Joey Zargo (Bergen Catholic, NJ), the No. 5-ranked wrestler in the country. He then upended third-seeded Ed Scott (Dubois, PA) in the semis. Scott is the No. 10-ranked wrestler in the nation. Then, finally, Reyna capped a superb performance with an 8-7 win over Josh Saunders (Christian Brothers, MO), the top seed and the No. 1-ranked wrestler in the country at 138 pounds. A year ago, Reyna placed fourth at this tournament while wrestling at 132 lbs. Bretli will enter his senior season on a quest for his fourth Florida 3A state championship.

Congratulations to Bretli Reyna, TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week.
