The Open Mat’s High School Wrestler of the Week Award goes to Paddy Gallagher of St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio. Paddy and his teammates traveled to Michigan to participate in the DCC Super Duals hosted by Detroit Central Catholic High School. Gallagher earned one of the biggest wins of the high school season when he knocked off Alex Facundo (Davison, MI), the number one ranked 170 lber in the nation. Facundo dropped to 160 lbs recently and was defeated by Gallagher, 3-1. Both are among the top-ranked juniors in the country with Facundo coming in at #2 and Gallagher at #4. Paddy has already committed to staying in-state for college and wrestling for Tom Ryan’s Ohio State Buckeyes. He projects as a 174 lber for the Bucks.
In his junior season, Gallagher has already won the Walsh Ironman and took second place at the Doc Buchanan Invitational. In two years of competition for St. Ed’s, Gallagher has placed third as a freshman and first as a sophomore.
