TOM’s High School Regional Rankings: Rocky Mountain

Rocky Mountain Regional

Welcome to a new feature that we at TOM are very proud of, the High School Regional Rankings. For the next couple of weeks, we will release rankings for eight different regions that will cover the entire nation. Why is this needed, you may ask? These rankings will allow us to focus more attention on wrestlers from around the country that could be considered overlooked at this time. With talent clustered in certain areas of the nation, there are plenty of quality wrestlers from outside those “power-states” or regions that may get slighted. And don’t worry, we’ll have rankings for those areas too!

We’ll start with the Rocky Mountain region. This area will include wrestlers from Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Utah, and Wyoming. For these rankings and all others, only wrestlers that competed in the state tournament series (aside from Ohio) will be considered. They will only be ranked at their weight from the state tournament, as well.

Weight/Rank Name School Grade State College
106
1 Brady Collins Wray Fr. Colorado
2 Roberto Estrada Weld Central So. Colorado
3 Hunter Ketchem Billings Skyview So. Montana
4 Dayson Torgerson Richfield Fr. Utah
5 Trenton Ward Bear River Jr. Utah
6 Tristan Bremer Lewiston So. Idaho
7 Kobi Johnson Loveland So. Colorado
8 Dallan Hunsaker American Fork So. Utah
9 Derek Glenn Jr. Cherokee Trail So. Colorado
10 Roddy Romero Post Falls Jr. Idaho
11 Christopher Martino Bishop Kelly So. Idaho
12 Ben Miller McQueen So. Nevada

This is largely a group that has not received much attention nationally. The top two wrestlers here were both Colorado champions with only one loss between them (to an out-of-state opponent) combined. It’s sort of surprising that there are not more freshmen near the top of these rankings, as is usually the case with 106 lbs. #7 Kobi Johnson was an eighth-place finisher this season at the Doc Buchanan. #11 Christopher Martino has the longest list of national credentials of the group. He has placed four times in Fargo at the 16U level, though none have been above 94 lbs.
