Virginia Tech received a verbal commitment from New Jersey state champion David McFadden on Thursday. McFadden announced his decision at a press conference and is the first monster recruit for the coach Kevin Dresser and his staff.
A 2014 state champion, McFadden’s stock rose significantly after finished second at the USA Wrestling Junior Freestyle Nationals at 152 pounds. A three-time state placewinner, McFadden was a state runner-up as a freshman for DePaul Catholic. He was sixth as a sophomore. McFadden is also a two-time Beast of the East placewinner, taking third as a sophomore and a junior.
He’s ranked third in the preseason by TheOpenMat.com at 152 pounds. He joins Andrew Dunn (Bethlehem Catholic, Pa.) and Ryan Burns (Clarence, N.Y.) as commitments for the Class of 2015. Earlier this week, the Hokies received a commitment from Kyle Norstrem of Brandon, Fla., one of the top recruits from the Class of 2016. Norstrem’s brother Kevin is currently wrestling at Virginia Tech.
