The first weekend of October marks the official, unofficial start of the high school preseason. The Who’s #1 event will be held on Sunday evening, as well. Over the past few years, the Journeyman Fall Classic has grown into the premier tuneup for the Super 32. This year’s main event will take place on Sunday, as Saturday will feature an “OverFlo” tournament where wrestlers with lesser credentials or that may have been late to register can wrestle, and the winner of the competition earns a spot in Sunday’s main event. Remember for this tournament it is run in a round robin format, rather than a bracketed tournament. Here are the wrestlers to watch as each weight, as well as predictions.
99 lbs - This weight class will be primarily comprised of high school freshman, so it is one of the smaller regarding entrants. There are also only a few that have prior credentials. All the way from Oklahoma is Christian Forbes (Tulsa, OK), who was a state champion this summer in both Cadet freestyle and Greco-Roman. JaShon Holmes (Shaker, NY) just missed out on qualifying for the New York state tournament as an eighth-grader. He took third in his section while competing at 99 lbs. Minnesota’s Jore Volk (Lakeville, MN) was a double All-American in Fargo this year, taking second in Cadet freestyle and fifth in Greco-Roman. Another Minnesota wrestler will be in the mix with Zachary Silvis (Cottage Grove, MN) who was a Northern Plains Greco and freestyle champion at the Schoolboy level. Finally, Nic Allison (Mifflin Co., PA) was a third-place finisher last year at the Super 32 Middle School division’s 75 lb weight class.
