The good news continues to trickle out of New Brunswick as Rutgers received a verbal commitment today from one of the state’s top rising juniors. Brian Soldano (High Point, NJ) was a 160 lb New Jersey state champion in 2020 at 160 lbs, which helped him earn a #5 ranking at the weight heading into the 2020-21 season and he’s currently the #38th ranked wrestler in the Class of 2022 . Over the last year, Soldano has placed third at the Super 32 and seventh a 16U Freestyle Nationals in Fargo. He also won six of seven matches at the National Duals. Brian was a state qualifier as a freshman at 160 lbs, as well.

Just over a week ago, Rutgers head coach Scott Goodale announced that Sebastian Rivera would be joining the program as a graduate transfer. Soldano is the first recruit from the Class of 2022 that has committed to the Scarlet Knights. Three rising seniors Kyonte Hamilton (Georgetown Prep, MD), Joey Oliveri (Hanover Park, NJ), and Dylan Weaver (Lyndhurst, NJ), all of who are top-100 recruits, have given verbals to Goodale’s team. If Soldano can hold 174 lbs it would be a great fit for the Scarlet Knights. Their top recruit from the Class of 2020 is John Poznanski who is a 184 lber, while another incoming freshman, Connor O’Neill is expected to compete at 165.
