Last night TOM was informed that the sixth-ranked 195 lber in the nation, Austin Cooley, has made his college selection. He has given a verbal commitment to continue his collegiate career wrestling for Keith Gavin’s Pittsburgh Panthers. In his two seasons at Wyoming Seminary, Cooley has placed third and sixth at the National Prep Championships. Last season he won Eastern States, placed fourth at the Powerade Invitational and sixth at the Walsh Ironman. Austin will fit in nicely with the Panthers, as he projects to stay at 197 lbs, a weight that currently has junior Kellan Stout as the starter. In April’s rankings for the Class of 2019, Cooley was 63rd overall.
Austin is the second wrestler from the Class of 2019 to give a verbal to Pitt, the first came from 113 lb Pennsylvania state champion Ryan Sullivan of Shaler, PA.
