Wednesday night Old Dominion received a verbal commitment from the sixth-ranked 220 lber in the nation Jacob Bullock (Cahokia, IL). As a junior, Bullock was an Illinois 2A state runner-up, losing in the finals to Luke Luffman (Urbana, IL), who is currently ranked fourth in the country at that same weight. After the high school season, Bullock went to NHSCA Junior Nationals, where he would end up taking second place. In the semifinals, Jacob defeated New Jersey state champ and FloNational champ Lewis Fernandes (Voorhees, NJ) 5-1. Before his junior year of high school, Jacob went to Fargo and was a fifth-place finisher in Cadet Freestyle at the 220 lb weight class.
It seems like a broken record at this point, but the Monarchs have continued to dip into Illinois with the recruiting Class of 2019. Bullock’s commitment makes him the fifth Illinois native in their current recruiting class. While ODU has a few young heavyweights on their roster, none have had a significant impact at the DI level yet, so more talent at the weight would be welcome.
