For the second consecutive week, TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week hails from the state of Iowa. This time it is Fort Dodge High School’s three-time undefeated state champion Brody Teske, a Penn State signee. When Brody entered the Council Bluffs Wrestling Classic at 126 lbs, fans envisioned a dream match, one of the biggest regular season bouts in Iowa high school wrestling history, between Teske and fellow undefeated, three-time state champion Alex Thomsen of Underwood. The match materialized when both wrestlers made the finals and the action that ensued will go down in Iowa wrestling lore. Thomsen jumped out to an early lead and held a 7-3 advantage entering the third period. Teske proceeded to get a takedown with back points to give himself a brief lead. Late in the third period, Brody broke a tie with a takedown that gave him an 11-9 win and the tournament championship.
The championship bout was not the only comeback of the day for Teske. He was also trailing Nebraska state champion Phillip Moomey 5-2 in the semifinals and needed a takedown and back points to earn the victory. Congratulations to Brody Teske, TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week!
