High School Wrestler of the Week

TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week – Dec. 4th, 2017

Michael Blockhus

TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week should be fairly obvious if you follow the high school level closely. This week’s winner is New Hampton, Iowa’s Michael Blockhus. Michael won the 145 lb weight class at the Cliff Keen Independence Invitational with a 5-0 record tallying two falls and two major decisions en route to the finals. What was most remarkable about the tournament was his 5-3 finals victory over Missouri state champion and Cadet national freestyle champion Josh Saunders. In the most recent edition of TOM’s High School Rankings, Saunders was #10 at 132 lbs and Blockhus was #11 at 138.  Blockhus, a Northern Iowa signee, is a two-time Iowa state champion and three-time state finalist, winning his most recent title at 126 lbs at the 2A level. In the offseason, Blockhus was a sixth-place finisher at the Junior Nationals in freestyle after making it to the semi-finals. Congratulations to Michael Blockhus, TOM’s High School Wrestler of the Week!
