This week, and more specifically today, was supposed to be the deadline for the independent arbitrator to rule on the controversy surrounding the Final X Rutgers match between Zain Retherford and Yianni Diakomihalis at 65 kg. Cornell head coach Rob Koll sent a tweet at approximately 6:30 pm eastern that said “Yianni Update: Rewrestle Match2”. USA Wrestling has confirmed this as well, through Twitter, though no formal release has been issued.

The controversy surrounding the match centered around a challenge brick thrown by Nittany Lion Wrestling Club’s Cael Sanderson at the end of match two of the series, seemingly won by Diakomihalis.  The replay of the situation went back 40 seconds to overturn a previous ruling which ended up awarding points to Retherford, which gave him the match and the series.

In the time since Final X, the two squared off at the Yasar Dogu in a great match that was won by Yianni.

At this time there are no details about a wrestle off between the two. Whenever it will be held, Retherford will start with a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.
